The area where it is applied will become numb, but you will be conscious and can communicate without any problem. They usually take 10 min to get in action and can last up to 60 mins.

Sedation is generally used for patients who have anxiety. Sedation relaxes the person. They are categorized into mild, moderate, and deep. When you undergo sedation, you will not be aware of your surroundings.

General anesthesia is used for the longer procedure. You will become completely unconscious and will not feel any pain, and you will also have amnesia from the procedure. The medication is given through an IV or face mask.
